Oomph up your chipboard letters

April 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’m so in Love with chipboard letters and those in the April Kit by Scenic Route are no exception. I love that chipboard letters give your layout dimension and that they are also so versatile. You can alter them in any way you want to fit them to your page or you can dress them up.

In this layout I decided to dress them up a little. The cute little stamp “Snapshots” which was included in this month’s kit was perfect. I just used Staz On - so that the stamped image wouldn’t smear on the glossy Chipboard letter and dry right away.

Another wonderful way to give those chipboard letters a unique style is to outline them or doodle on them. Outlining is for a long a favorite way for me to draw more attention to the chipboard alphas.

I outlined the chipboard letters this way:

While Lucy took a different approach to the outlining:

You can see what differences you can make with just some small lines.

Valerie painted little white dots on the letters- which totally adds to the dreamy romantic look of her page:

Have you noticed the little circle with the date on it - you can use the insides of the letters - to make your own embellishments!

The easiest way to alter your chipboard letters is to use color on them. The best way to do it, is to sand those letters a bit down- so they get a rougher and the paint will stick better to the surface.

Almost all of us in the DT did this with different colors:

Rebekah used a nice green color:

I used purple acrylic paint and added some water soluble crayons on top - the same I used for the bird in the layout.

Valerie painted them also with acrylic paint and then added some blue Chalk Ink to get a marbled look

Donna inked them with a black inkpad

You see there are gazillion ways to oomph up your chipboard letters. I can’t wait to see your creations and what are you doing with those letters!

What a fabulous post. I wouldn’t have realized all of the differences to these alphas without you pointing them out!

Wow great article Nat!! I love being able to “see” all the different ways to alter chipboard. And I didn’t even notice the small white polka dots on Vals pages until you pointed those out. Amazing!!! I love all of the different techniques.
    Great job ladies!
