Halloween Goodie Bags

Description: For Halloween this year, I sent my nieces and nephews a little goodie bag and puzzle book. I used Martha Stewart treat bags and filled them with stickers, bubbles, a glowstick necklace, candy, hot chocolate mix that turns orange, and a fun little pin. The paper I used for the label and the pins are part of the Heidi Grace Halloween line from a couple years ago and I used various Doodlebug alpha stickers to spell their names. The paper I used for the covers of the fun books is K&CO, I believe. I used MM alpha stickers to create the titles. There are so many letters in those packages, that I only needed to use two sets, and had some leftover. The pages of the fun book are various puzzles and coloring pages I found online. The pins were super fun to do. I used Creative Impression felt shapes, stickles in various colors, and random chipboard pieces as the base, and edged them with a gold krylon. The best part? I got the box sent in time for Halloween. :D TFL!

Memory Frame Ornament

Description: This is one of the others I made, with an added tag. We used alcohol inks and distress inks to create the background, then added distress stickles. Love the way the stickles look once they dried. Kinda sandy, kinda glittery. TFL!

Memory Frame Ornament

Description: This past August, I attended CKU in Provo. One of the classes was with Tim Holtz and we made four ornaments/pendants using memory frames and a bunch of different TH products. The photo in this one is of me when I was a baby. I'm going to make matching ones of my sisters and give them as a set to my Mom for Christmas. TFL!

Baby Shower - Favors and Advice Book

Description: I wasn't able to finish or send out the invitations I'd originally planned, so I repurposed what I had done. The brown cardstock is stamped with a Fancy Pants giant distressed swirl stamp, then sprayed with silver glitter mist. I printed the words before cutting them out with a circle punch (the purple Marvy one, I believe) I had a ton of those glitter crowns made (Martha Stewart punch, MS malachite glitter and modge podge to keep it from spreading glitter everywhere), so I added those and then the m&m tins. On the back is a sleeve holding a set of children's themed bookplates (some purchased, some I made). The advice book is made with a couple of tag chipboard pages from a Rusty Pickle book. I used Doodlebug and Scenic Route stickers for the title. The paper is from a K&Co pad. I also added an elastic band to keep it closed. TFL!

Baby Shower - Thank You Notes

Description: For some reason, I didn't get great photos of these. I used the MS punch again on the front, then added a matching silver crown on the inside, so when it's closed you can see it showing through. The 'thank you' stamp is Impress and the baby shoe stamp is Judikins. TFL!

Baby Shower - Cupcake Picks and Crown

Description: Half the picks had glitter crowns, half had a baby shoe stamped then colored in with white gel pen. The crown was my favorite thing that I made. It's for the little giraffe that sat on the diaper cake, but I thought it'd be a cute thing to prop somewhere in the nursery or hung from a picture frame. It's made with thick shimmery silver paper and has a blue glitter stripe along the bottom. TFL!

Baby Shower Gift

Description: This is the gift I gave my sister for her shower this summer. Since I wasn't hosting this one, I had time to really make it special. I've had this fancy chocolate box saved for a couple years, just waiting for the perfect gift or occasion to give it to her. I added the white ribbon blue cording, and baby carriage charm, and created a little tag to seal the inside tissue paper. It's made with a K&Co tag and Chatterbox stickers. I didn't get a photo of the card, but that's what's tucked into the roses. TFL!

Description: This was so fun to do. I was also really happy that the photo turned out so well as an enlargement (8x12). I wasn't sure it would. I made the little tiles with various kinds of rubons/stickers on white paper, then topped with Tim Holtz fragments pieces. The letter stickers are from Sweetwater. TFL!

Description: This photo is several years old, and part of my 'favorites' collection. And now the layout is too. I absolutely love how it turned out. I can't remember who makes the acrylic tree, but I added rubons from various companies and green Stickles around the edge. The paper is Sassafrass Lass, with a Bazzill border strip layered under another SL border at the bottom. The bike and 'let's go' rubons are from Cosmo Cricket; '2005' is Doodlebug. The journaling piece is SL I think, with more borders layered at the top. The 'sunshine' charm is KI Memories and stapled on with a teeny-tiny stapler. The giant letter stickers are Making Memories - love the way they look and will have to hunt down more of these. TFL!

Description: Every time I look at this picture, I hear the "smooch" noise in my head. So, I decided I'd do a layout. LOL The cloud paper is American Crafts and the hearts are KandCo. I used about half a package. The chipboard letters are Basic Grey. The cloud chipboard is actually a tree piece from one of the Maya Road sets, turned on it's side. I painted it, outlined it with stickles and added the Heidi Grace quote sticker. I also used a silver pen to add accents to some of the hearts and the title. This is one of my favorite layouts I've ever done, I think. :) TFL!

Description: This layout has an added 6x12 page. I discovered that I love those. It's the perfect way to add an extra photo or two without having to do another full 12x12 layout. And it wasn't until I photographed this that I realized that those 2 photos are in reverse order. argh. The title of this took me awhile to do and it made me wish for longer pop-ups! The Doodlebug stickers (buddy) are popped up on foam. I used the edging of the EK Success pack that I had, which worked great until I ran out and had to cut my own. It was very sticky! lol But, it looks really cool in real life, so I'm glad I tried it. TFL!

Description: I did a set of layouts with photos of this little guy's big sister and brother playing ball last summer, and when I came to this photo I knew it needed to be included somehow. I used scraps from the other layouts and some Scenic Route letter stickers for the title. Then I inked the heck out of the paper and added journaling. Looking at it on screen though, it definitely feels unfinished. So I may go back and add a couple more scraps to even it out a bit.

Description: This is one of those layouts that looks totally and completely different than I started out imagining it. But I'm happy that my original idea didn't work out, because I think the photo wouldn't have worked as well. Several of the layouts I did at the retreats were done with my favorite photos that I just hadn't found something perfect to do with them. This is one. I don't know what patterned paper the strip is from, but the butterfly is from a really old K&Co Tim Coffey line that I added wire antennae and silver accents to. The chipboard stickers are Basic Grey. I edged cardstock with a silver paint pen, also.

Description: I realized just now that this doesn't really have a title. I just kind of threw stuff together. lol The flowers are made from a bunch of random things. The white rubons are Basic Grey, and I used a bunch of bronze nailheads found at the sewing store that I always seem to use on cat layouts for some reason. I also edged the layout with a gold paint pen. The tape under the flowers is from 7 Gypsies. TFL!

Description: This is my sister and her DH, a few years ago, while he was home on mid-tour leave from Afganistan. I love that I managed to capture this because she was only able to cover his ears for a few seconds. It was a funny moment. Needless to say, I'll be making her a copy of this layout, for her book. :D The glittery frame was made with Stickles (cinnamon). I just coated it completely, let it dry, then went back over the spots where cardstock was showing through. The liquid content warped a bit, with this much on the paper, so I should have used traditional glitter and tacky paper. The chipboard frames are from an American Crafts set and the hearts are from random chipboard sets, covered in Stickles. Letter stickers are American Crafts also. Oh, and I left the year incomplete, because I'm not sure yet what year it was.

Description: I was hoping to get a better photo of this layout, but I gave up and decided to post it anyway. So, it looks way better in person. The photo is of my Mom and her sister. It's from a few years ago, and I found it when I was looking for something to go with the paper. Once I cut it down, it was a perfect match. I colored the paper with Copic markers and cut out the 'smile' section, then matted it on black and mounted it behind the little tin cover that was in the kit. TFL!

Valentine for my Valentine :)

Description: I thought I had posted this last year, but I couldn't find it, so guess not. This was the valentine I made my DH last year. The heart is a precut piece of chipboard, from the Bare Elements line by Creative Imaginations. It's part of a ring book, so I used the existing hole as the hanger and added the metal washer and ball chain. The banner and wings are rubons by Hambly. The main part of the heart was created with a red rose patterned paper, stamped with big black swirls and inked around the edges. Then I added a coat of Ranger crackle glaze and let it dry overnight. See where the cracks are smaller and closer together on the right-hand side? Yeah, that's not on purpose. LOL That's what happens when the glue holding the paper to the chipboard isn't completely dry, and curls up when the crackle glaze dries. That whole half was curled right up the next morning. Frustrating! But, I fixed it with redline tape, inked the heck out of that side, and glued the banner over the worst of the damage. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out (despite the glue showing through the vellum-oops!), and DH liked it, so in the end it was a successful project.

Birthday Gift Tag Book

Her gift was a day out for lunch then fabric shopping, so I needed a way to make that into something tangible, not just a gift card. I used a bunch of Heather Bailey scrapbooking products from K&Co. Happy Halloween ornament

Description: This was my Halloween card this year. I've been working on it all month, off and on, and they went in the mail yesterday. But, at least they got sent! LOL Here are the details (lots of details!): The base is a spray-painted wooden oval, stamped repeatedly with a Happy Halloween stamp (A Stamp in the Hand) in black. The hill is Heidi Grace shimmery dot paper and the moon is silver metallic vellum. The house is from Maya Road, covered in Doodlebug flocked paper. The jack-o-lantern face in the window is Martha Stewart fabric ribbon. (It's amazing how well the same face fit in the different sized windows of the houses.) The word bubble is cut from clear acrylic (using a Martha Stewart word bubble sticker as a template) and stamped twice with black and white inks to make the greeting show better. The stamp is from A Muse. I used various ribbons for the hangers and glued puffy bats from some ribbon on each side. I edged all the wood and chipboard with a black Copic marker. And my favorite part: the spooky fence. It's a Martha Stewart punch that I made strips with a base to glue on the backside. I snipped the base at every singular fence cross-post so it would curve around the top of the oval. On the back: The base is a black cardstock oval, glued to the back, on top of the fencing base. Then I stamped the spider web (Stampa Rosa) and added glitter marker to the spokes. The bat (Stamps by Judith) was stamped in white and traced/filled in with a black Glaze gel pen to make him shiny. The heart is punched with the same silver vellum as the moon (Fiskars punch). eta: click on the photo to get a better look. :) Whew! I think that covers it. They were a ton of fun to make. Description: I was in a paper piecing mood at the scrapbook retreat I went to last weekend. I mainly did stamping, but I had some patterned paper with this little train that I thought would be cute trimmed out. The quote at the bottom is from a piece of Fancy Pants paper. The train paper and the rubon letters are all from the Leaps and Bounds line by Colorbok. I tucked a journaling card behind the photo. TFL!

Happiness Runs (in a circular motion)

Description: I initially intended this layout for one of Valerie's challenges (using circles) from the crop on Saturday, but I think it works better for Gayle's song challenge. All the patterned papers are Sassafrass Lass, and I added pieces of s.e.i. pink polka-dot velvet paper, which matches perfectly. The rhinestone circles are Heidi Swapp and MAMBI; the brads are from various companies. I used several different circle punches and the heart is a Fiskars punch, which I love the shape of so much I think I need it in all sizes! lol The title alphabet stickers are Doodlebug and Lil Davis Designs. The photo is from this past summer and is my niece playing with my FIL's dog. He chased the kids ragged. :D TFL!

Butterfly Gift Tag Envelope

Description: I made this for my Mom's birthday gift. I kind of winged it with random stuff I pulled from what was within easy reach. The card inside is "10 Reasons to Smile" from an Amy Butler die cut pack. The butterfly is from last month's Muse kit. I used my new Italian! stapler, that uses teeny tiny staples to attach the pompom trim. I didn't want to try gluing it, and messing up the whole thing (what usually happens!). :D TFL!

366 Days of Scraps - May 08

Description: For May's book, I used two random chipboard pieces for the covers and scalloped circles punched from white cardstock for the pages. My original idea was to center a big, mult-layered flower on the cover. But once I had the lace stickers (K&Co) down, I liked it better plain. Especially when I added the white bling cardstock to the inside back cover. The page numbers are stamped with a Ma Vinci's Reliquary stamp set, in turqoise. They take up more space than I'd planned, but it looks okay, overall. I didn't want to use binder rings again, so I laced up a binding instead. Then I realized I hadn't added the date, so I found a tag for that. It was also a good way to add more color. It's not my most favorite of the books, but I like the look of the white/raw chipboard combo. TFL!

366 Days of Scraps - April 08

Description: For April's book, I used two pieces from a Clear Scraps acrylic album for the covers, with cardstock pages. Each page is stamped with a Cornish Heritage Farms leaf background stamp in brown or white. I used 7Gypsies rubons on the covers, and Fontwerks stamps for the year and page numbers. The butterfly stickers are from a Cavallini & Co set I found at Barnes and Noble. I glued another one under a Tim Holtz fragments piece and trimmed it down to make the accent on the front cover. 9 down, 3 to go! :D TFL!

366 Days of Scraps - March 08

Description: For the March book, I used two pieces of chipboard and a stack of cut-down shipping tags, strung on a giant binder ring. I painted the covers white, then glued on the green papers (not sure what company that glitter paper is) and sanded the edges down. The star on the front is covered in bling cardstock and edged with stickles. I added the date with Making Memories magnetic alphas (also used for page numbers). The "lucky" sticker is from a MAMBI set and I added a MM star charm strung on a few split rings. The stamp I used on each page is a border stamp from a Autumn Leaves set (I think). It's a long stamp, so I alternated which side I hung off the edge. That's about it for this one. :) TFL! Like the rest of the book, this is inspired by a project in Rebecca Sower's book, Scrapbooking Life's Little Moments.

Description: February's book. This time I used a 7 Gypsies mini book (not sure exactly what it's called and it started out spiral-bound) and covered it with Sassafrass papers, leaving the edges raw. Supplies: inside pages are pink, green, yellow and dark pink Bazzill; title rubons are Cosmo Cricket; numbers are Heidi Swapp chipboard; swoosh is American Crafts chipboard; dove stamp is from Stamps by Judith (stamped twice in yellow and brown); the brass heart is from my own stash; the fancy paperclip is also from 7 Gypsies; the number stamps on the pages are from Ma Vinci's Reliquary; and the heart tape is pop tape I found at a toy store I've got March done too, and will post that in a few days. TFL!

366 Days of Scraps - Jan. '08

Description: This is January's book, for the year set I'm working on. The design of the covers didn't quite end up how I'd planned. I started with a clear piece of plastic for the front and a chipboard piece from a Maya Road album for the back. I covered the back of the plastic with glitter, then glued on cardstock. To seal the edges, I used UTEE (thick embossing powder). But, I let the heat gun get too hot and it scorched the plastic a bit. Luckily, this was after I added the rubons (the snowflakes and month/year) so I went with it. I kept adding UTEE and purposely scorched the rest. So, the front cover is rather warped, but in a good way, I hope. LOL The back cover is just painted, sealed with glossy accents, then UTEE'd heavily. Then I added the rubon and my sig. The inside pages are qlassine envelopes that I folded down to fit the size. Then I trimmed the tops and punched the half circle to make it easier to add stuff. The inspiration for all these books is a mini book in Rebecca Sower's book, Scrapbooking Life's Little Moments. TFL!

Book for Tina - Torie end page

Description: And this is the end page for Torie's section. The cardstock stickers are the perfect look and size for this kind of thing, especially once I outlined them with the glitter gel pen. It really stands out sharp and is so sparkly in real life. I wasn't too sure about the font they used for this set, because some of the letters (like the 'e') are so much bigger than others, but when you see them put together like this, it works.

Description: This one is a good example of my plan for the book's page design. I had this great Doodlebug printed cardstock in several basic patterns and so for each kid, I chose a two-color combination and mixed and matched the papers. Since Eric and Torie are blowing bubbles, I used the circle papers and matched up the big cut out circle to the matching circle on the base paper. By the time I was finishing the book, I was running out of some of the paper, so not every page follows this plan, but the majority of the book does. TFL!

Description: All the pages in this book are single photo pages, and are a mix of 4x6 and 5x7. The book is an 8.5x11 Westrim strap-hinge album, so the pages are slightly less than that. This particular photo is the day we first met Torie, our oldest niece. My husband's family came to Iowa for our wedding and brought her along, too. TFL!

Book for Tina - Cover

Description: My longest running project is finally finished! \o/ I started this book a couple years ago, but stalled when it was almost done. I put it away and only thought of it again earlier this month. It turned out to be a good thing, because the age progression of each kid is more pronounced, I think. Even for the youngest. I'm not going to post every page (4 kids x 8 page each!), but just some of my favorites, over the next week, before I leave to visit them all and present it to Tina in person. She's going to flip. And I think it tops the quilt from last year. :D Some supply details: All Doodlebug product, except for the book itself; rubons, stickers, papers, vellum, etc. I used a glitter gel pen to outline each kid's name on their ending page. TFL!

Description: Finally got this one finished. I started it last fall at a scrapbook retreat, but knew it needed something. I added the puppy's initial and the swirly piercing. The pocket holds journaling about Shelby (the puppy) being adopted by my inlaws last summer. She was such a cutie and I got lucky with this photo. :D TFL! p.s. The fill-in stamp is by Catslife Press.
